President's letter from Randy Johnson, 2007

On Friday, January 4th, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the Sun City Hunting and Fishing Club is sponsoring their annual “Fly Fishing Only” trout fishing outing at Berry Creek Lake in Sun City. The Sun City Club has invited all members of the San Gabriel Flyfishers to attend. They just stocked 600 pounds of rainbow trout in the lake, most between 1 and 3 pounds. The lake is closed to fishing now, to allow the fish to acclimate, and this outing will be the first fishing allowed.

There is no cost to fish, but you do need to register. If you plan to attend, be at the Pavilion on the north side of the lake at 7:30 AM to register. There will be a fishing contest, with the fisherman with the biggest stringer of 3 fish winning the prize. You can get to the Pavilion by taking Del Webb Blvd from Williams Drive, and then go north to the first left turn off Del Webb Blvd. after you pass the lake. There is a sign that says Legacy Hills Pavilion at the turn.

As far as tackle, a 3wt to 5 wt rod will work great. Woolly Buggers, nymphs, and other subsurface flies in sizes 10 to 22 should be your best bet. The nymphs can be fished by themselves, or on droppers below another fly such as a Bugger or dry fly

Call me at 512-868-2545 if you have any questions.
