Cozumel

Thanksgiving 2010- Ken Kahanek

I spent the Thanksgiving Holiday with my family in Playa del Carman. While there, I jumped the shuttle to Cozumel and went with a local guide to fish the flats on the upper end of Cozumel, out of Paradise Point for the local bonefish. I was not expecting much since you never hear about bone fishing in Cozumel, however I was pleasantly surprised. The flats where great with some poling in the Panga, but we waded most of the day. Bonefish where everywhere with large feeding pods moving about. Although the bones are not all that large, they did make up in sheer numbers. I landed five and pulled three more, plus caught a small Jack. If you are ever on the island or in Playa and want to get away, give Alex Euan a call. Alex is partnered up with Victor and they can take up to two people each on their Panga’s. It would be a good idea to set this up prior to your visit as they are busy during the tourist season. http://www.cozumel.net/fun/fly-fishing/
